-Expands Role to Further Company’s Excellence in Circulation
and Audience Development-

New York, NY, August 20, 2012 – Rodale Inc., the world’s leading healthy lifestyle company, announced today that Joyce Shirer has been named Senior Vice President, Audience Development and E-tail Marketing, effective immediately. Shirer will lead and manage all areas of Magazine Circulation and Single Copy Sales, Advertising Operations and Yield Management, Online Audience Development, Syndication, List and Alternative Media Marketing, and E-tail Marketing; each of those department heads will report to Shirer. She will report to Maria Rodale, Chairman and CEO, and will be based in the Emmaus, PA, headquarters.

As Rodale continues to build out its e-tail offerings and online presence, consolidating circulation and audience development departments under Shirer’s leadership was a logical next step in streamlining the customer, partner and advertiser experience.

Maria Rodale states, “We’re pleased to welcome Joyce back to Rodale, especially at this exciting and busy time for our brands and for our new projects in development for 2013. Joyce brings a unique combination of skills -- a deep understanding of both back-end operations and the metrics that drive our online and offline business and an eye for marketing campaigns that reach our diverse customer base -- that are crucial as our business broadens in scope.”

Shirer had previously been Senior Vice President, Magazine and E-Tail Consumer Marketing for Rodale. From 2008 to 2012, she served as Vice President of Marketing at Magazines.com, where in addition to managing merchandising and user experience, she was instrumental in developing new marketing and sales strategies for the company’s online storefront. Prior to her tenure at Magazines.com, Shirer held Rodale’s SVP, Magazine Consumer Marketing position, managing circulation and single copy sales. As an integral part of the teams that launched Men’s Health and Women’s Health, Shirer played a critical role in laying the foundation for brand and product development while driving substantial circulation growth.

Shirer holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Muhlenberg College and resides in Bethlehem, PA.
