EMMAUS, PA and NEW YORK, NY, May 14, 2009 - Organic Gardening magazine, published by Rodale Inc., has received five Silver Awards of Achievement from the Garden Writers Association for the 2009 Media Awards program, which recognizes the vast talents of garden communicators in the areas of writing, photography, graphic design, illustration, and electronic media. Recognition for individual or collective achievement was awarded to 45 pieces of work published in 2008.
Organic Gardening dominated the Magazine Writing category, with four articles receiving recognition out of seven in the category. The winning articles are: Rain Check, by Therese Ciesinski, Aug-Oct 2008; Desert Bloom, by Therese Ciesinski, Nov/Dec 08-Jan 09; Dark Side of Lawns, by Beth Huxta, April 2008; and Long Lived Lettuce, by Willi Evans Galloway, May 2008. The magazine also received an award in the Graphic Design-Cover category for the Nov/Dec 08 - Jan 09 Onion cover designed by Gavin Robinson.
Organic Gardening will compete with other Silver Award winners for the Garden Writer's Association Gold Award of Achievement, which will be announced at the Garden Writer's Association Annual Awards Banquet in Raleigh, N.C. on September 26. In 2008, Organic Gardening won a Gold Award for best magazine article for the "Bee Crisis Special Report" by Sari Harrar.
