May 28, 2009--Emmaus, PA, New York and Boston-Rodale Inc., the Boston Public Market Association and the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Conservancy announced today Rodale's sponsorship of the Boston Public Market at Dewey Square along the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. The market opens today and runs through October 29 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30am to 6:30pm.

Located in Dewey Plaza, across from South Station, the market will feature a wide variety of regional vendors offering a seasonal selection of fruits, berries, vegetables, honey, eggs and meat, a selection of local artisanal products, such as breads, cheese and jams, as well as flowers, herbs and plants.

"The Boston Public Market Association and the Greenway have created a vibrant market in the heart of the city - one that is vital to the health of area residents, workers, and visitors. "The 2009 market will emphasize locally grown produce from small farms in Massachusetts, along with regional specialty food products," said Don Wiest, Chair of the Boston Public Market Association. "Shoppers at the market will get to make a personal connection with their food provider, learning where it's from, how it's grown, and who grew it."

The Boston Public Market Association has been holding seasonal markets with the ultimate goal of establishing a year-round permanent marketplace in Boston featuring local agricultural products. Located near one of Boston's busiest transit stations, as well as numerous office buildings, the Leather District, Fort Point and Chinatown neighborhoods, Dewey Square is host to tens of thousands of people who pass by every day.

Nancy Brennan, executive director of The Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, said, "We are thrilled to collaborate with Rodale in supporting the return of the Boston Public Market to Dewey Square and the Greenway. It adds so much to summer living in Boston."

To further support Rodale's sponsorship of the Dewey Market, the Greenway Conservancy will offer an onsite recycling program through Save that Stuff www.savethatstuff.com, a leading waste management company. It has also partnered with Peabody Office Furniture, a local, family run furniture company to purchase and install chairs and tables in mid-June.

The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway was conceived in the tradition of the world's grandest urban parks, and builds upon Boston's remarkable history of green spaces. The Greenway brings urban boulevards built on a pedestrian scale to Boston's dense old downtown neighborhoods. In 2004, the non-profit Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy was founded as the official steward of the Greenway, with responsibility to maintain, program, improve and manage the Greenway. The Conservancy will operate the parks with and on behalf of the public, and raise significant private contributions every year in tandem with continued investment by the Commonwealth.
